Who builds CakeSheet
We are two people, not a company. Polina is the baker. She trained at The Pastry Academy by Amaury Guichon and bakes to order — the cakes, the costing questions, and the midnight order-hunting in this app are all hers first. Andrii is the developer. He has written software for a living for years, and had never thought about the cost of a gram of butter until the kitchen table conversations started.
She is Bulgarian, he is Ukrainian, and CakeSheet gets built between her sketching cake designs and him sketching database schemas.
Why we built it
CakeSheet started at our kitchen table. Orders lived in Instagram DMs and a notebook. Ingredient costs were guessed at. Prices got set on gut feeling, and the honest answer to “did that order make money?” was usually a shrug.
That is a spreadsheet problem right up until you have twelve recipes, forty ingredients whose prices keep moving, and an order due Saturday. Then it becomes an evening you do not get back. We looked for something built for home bakers rather than restaurants, did not find it, and started building.
How we work
Polina decides what the app should do; she is the one who lives it every week. If a screen would not survive being used with flour on your hands, it goes back. Andrii builds it. Nothing ships because it demos well — the numbers have to be right, because someone is going to price real work with them.
That is also why the free recipe cost calculator refuses to convert cups into grams instead of guessing a density: a number that looks right and is wrong is worse than no number.
Where it is going
CakeSheet is free during our open beta, and we would rather hear that something is broken than have you quietly stop using it. If you bake and sell, tell us what your week actually looks like — it is the only reason this app resembles the job at all.
